“Teargas is the worst,” he added.
“They use gas in an attempt to scare us, because we are Israelis.”
The demonstration on Sunday ended peacefully, with protesters chanting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) and “We will resist”.
The Israeli army has said it is investigating the incident and has urged residents of the Old City to stay indoors, citing the risk of injury.
“We condemn the use of tear gas and other forms of violence against peaceful protesters and call on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to immediately end the ongoing demonstrations in the Old Town,” the army said in a statement.
